Born in the USA in 1963, Nan Ellin, is Director of the Urban & Metropolitan Studies Program at the School of Public Affairs of Arizona State University where he is associate professor. He received his PhD in Urban Planning in 1994 at Columbia University. He taught at the University of Cincinnati and New York. Nan is a consultant for public and private sectors on issues related to urban revitalization and has written and edited numerous essays and books, including Postmodern Urbanism (1996), Architecture of Fear (1997) and Phoenix: 21st Century City (2006), in which he denounced the profound change that the post-modern society, obsessed by the problem of security and fear, is also suffering from an architectural point of view. In its latest publication, Integral Urbanism (2006), she suggests a whole new model of urban life able to come through the dispersion and fragmentation of existing urban landscapes.
