Ashis Nandy

Born in India in 1937, Ashis Nandy is is a political psychologist and sociologist of science who has worked on cultures of knowledge, visions, and dialogue of civilizations. He is Senior Fellow and Director of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies and President of the Committee for Cultural Choices and Global Futures. It 'a member of numerous organizations, including the Executive Councils of the World Futures Studies Federation, the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, the International Network for Cultural Alternatives to Development, and People's Union for Civil Liberties. In 1994, he occupied the first UNESCO Chair at the Centre of European Studies of the University of Trier. In 2007 he received the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize.
