WORLD SOCIAL SUMMIT 2008
'WSS: Baharier, transform fear in behavior'

"There are many fears and I am not sure whether we are more fearful today compared to the past": those are the words of mathematician Haim Baharir during the World Social Summit held in Rome. "Fearing an age is stronger than in the past". According to Baharier "fear is inborn in our nature and I believe that we must work on our fear using some instruments and I think that we should no longer see it as a historic matter. We must look into ourselves and observe".

"We live in an age of agreements, short, what is not short is the agreement". The difference, explains Baharier, is that the "contract is a series of resolutive clauses written in very small characters, almost illegible, and establishes only what happens when one of the parties decides to terminate the contract". "The pact - explains Baharier - is the contrary: in the pact, the parties decide to put together all the resources until reaching a goal". According to Baharier "it is a matter of time". "The pact has a certain conception of time, while the contract does not envisage a period: everything must be done now and I am the one who's advantaged". Fear overwhelms the individual when signing a contract, when "he should be experiencing hope, satisfaction, he is fearful instead". With regards to the crashing of certainties that causes fear, Baharier asks "what will it be the difference between certainty and assurance. Assurance - according to Baharier - makes me go on while certainty pulls me back. It is not only a semantic or glossary issue, it is a problem of view".

We need to transform fear in behavior, in our society, it is a problem of education and we must educate.
