WORLD SOCIAL SUMMIT 2008
'WSS: Saviano, Veltroni and Giddens among tomorrow's speeches'

The World Social Summit 2008 (WSS) will continue tomorrow at Villa Miani, organized by Fondazione Roma in collaboration with Censis, under the Sponsorship of the President of the Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The second day of conferences will open at 9:00 a.m., dedicated to "Fear and the role of media". Sociologists David Altheide, Frank Furedi and Michel Maffesoli will be attending. The Director of Tg2 Mauro Mazza will chair the debate.

The session on how to "Contrast metropolitan insecurities" will open at 11:30 a.m., chaired by Marino Sinibaldi (Radio Rai) during which the general director of Censis Giuseppe Roma will present the results of the research on perceptions of insecurity in the ten main cities worldwide. Massimiliano Fuksas, author of researches and studies on the model of sustainable city, will also intervene on the data. The debate "dialogue on cities" will follow with the speeches of journalist Roberto Saviano, author of «Gomorra», and of the Indian writer Suketu Mentha.

The afternoon of work will open instead with the lectio magistralis at 3:30 p.m. of the American psychologist and philosopher James Hillman on the legitimation of fears. The future fears and anxieties of world populations will be instead the central topic of the following work session scheduled at 4:30 p.m., with the speeches of Joanna Bourke (Birkbeck College) on the cultural history of fear, Edoardo Boncinelli (Vita Salute University of Milan) on the frontiers of science, of the French mathematician Haim Baharier on the fear of heavens as principle of wisdom and Salvatore Natoli on the individual and collective phenomenology of fear. The debate will be chaired by Massimo Giannini (La Repubblica).

At the end of the session, it is foreseen the speech of the leader of the Democratic Party Walter Veltroni.

The speech of the British sociologist Anthony Giddens will conclude the second day of works at Villa Miani at 6:30 p.m., with a reflection on the relation between fear and politics.
