WORLD SOCIAL SUMMIT 2008
'WSS: Loh, yes to controlled globalization'

"What do we like about globalization?" Christine Loh, Manager of the executive office of the Chinese Civic Exchange opened her speech at the World Social Summit held in Rome until Friday September 26th with a question. Loh explained progressively her view on globalization, linking it to the concept of control. "The inter-connection is one of the main benefits of contemporaneity, but - explained Christine Loh - there is no future without somebody that implements these operations." Loh then urged "not to fear globalization" and put effort in promoting more efficient control and management structures of the crisis.

Christine Loh did not forget in her speech to refer to the theme concerning the reform of international institutions. Loh declared indeed: "It is not important to discuss whether the western model or the Asian one is better, but to reform the political system, protecting the liberal-democratic system". Loh concluded her speech stating: "We know that the Western world fears the Chinese model, but it must focus on the reform of its institutions", mainly detaching from the G-8 model, which she defined as "outdated".
