'WSS: Emanuele, which is the media's responsibility in expanding world fears?'

"What is the influence of the evolution of communication means in building and spreading fears?": with this question, Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, President of Fondazione Roma, who opened the World Social Summit held in Rome until September 26th, faces the theme concerning the role of media in spreading world fears for the sake of spectacular actions. "In analysing this aspect", Emanuele said "we must ask ourselves how many of the numerous fears that distinguish post-modern society are objective and real and how many instead are created, fed, and expanded by media". Because "media processes of experiences may increase fears which are more or less inborn in individuals or even generate new ones". "This is why - ends Emanuele - we can say that today's fears are less and less the result of direct experience and more the result of how we interiorize what we perceive".
