'WSS: Ellin, integration to fight fears'

"Fears will always be with us" says Nan Ellin, director of the Urban & Metropolitan Studies Program of Arizona University, during the World Social Summit held in Rome until September 26th. "We must react, starting from the things that we like, in a positive spiral. We must protect the environment, those whom we love, the community, and environmental sustainability". The professor proposes a solution: "Complete planning, with fluent cities, de-fragmented, where people and cities integrate each other. In Phoenix for example, we were able to valorise our city. With the new millennium, we entered a decade of fears, which can be fought with a more reasoned planning".
